Women are often times under the impression that if they work out their thighs specifically, their thighs will get bigger instead of smaller. The truth of the matter is, you can do specific exercises in order to minimize your thigh bulge without inflating them.

There are many different reasons as to why working out your thighs specifically will not make them bigger. In order for your muscle to build up, you need to fuel it. The more muscle your body has, the more calories your body burns.

Young woman in orange bikini

Muscles tighten an firm areas while reducing the appearance of cellulite. If you just work out your thighs, your thighs will not get huge. People who build up huge thighs do so by doing specific exercises because this is the look they are trying to achieve.

Leg lifts are one of the best ways to tone up your upper thighs. Do 25 reps for each leg for the best results. Many people cannot do more than 5 reps to begin with. It’s okay to start with 5 and to build up to 25 over time.

When we carry around excess thigh weight, it can really stress our lower back and mid-section. Walking, horseback riding and stair climbing are also excellent for your thighs. Squats will help to thin out the hip and thigh areas.

Some people feel like they eat healthy and work out all the time, but no matter what they do, their thighs never seem to get any thinner. Some believe that if you lose weight from the rest of your body, your thighs will eventually follow.

Woman Warming Up before Jogging

Following a healthy diet is key to any weight loss. Thighs can be a difficult area to target. Make sure you are working out daily and that you are eating plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. Water is also very important. Drink at least 6 to 8 glasses of water a day. Swimming can also be another excellent way to lose inches off of your thighs. Swimming is a great workout for your legs.

Make sure you are walking for at least 30 to 45 minutes a day. This will really help to trim down your entire body and to trim down your thighs. Yoga can also be beneficial to strengthening your thigh muscles. Many of the Yoga poses are aimed towards strong legs and balance.

Riding a stationary bike or even riding your bike around your neighborhood will also be very beneficial to your thigh weight loss. Jogging may work for you, but it’s not for everyone. If you can’t jog, stick to walking. Or jog for 2 minutes and walk for 5, switching off. If you can’t find the time to fit in all of your exercises in at once, split it up throughout the day.

Losing weight isn’t just about eating healthy and exercising. It’s also about doing the right breathing exercises to keep your body healthy. In Yoga, the belief is that breathing and twisting in the proper way will release unwanted toxins from the organs and muscles.

Deep breathing exercises can be used to help with weight loss. Many of us are not breathing properly and it is so important for our overall health and well being.

Woman sitting on a large ball, doing breathing exercises on a beach

If you’re breathing through your chest, you’re doing it wrong. First, lay down on flat on your back. Breathe deeply in through your nose. While you take the air inside, push your belly up. Stick your chin on your chest, watching your belly rise. Once you have taken in as much air as you can hold, stop to hold your breath. Hold for ten to twenty seconds.

Most people feel like they have to let it out right away and it may be difficult to hold. Try to hold it for the whole twenty seconds and then let it out. You should have felt your lungs stretching out. Do this a few more times. It should get easier each time you do it.

The additional oxygen is now moving through your blood stream. This will slightly increase your air flow. It will also help to get rid of excess weight and fat. Continue lying down and practice this exercise often. Eventually you will become used to how deep breathing feels. Close your eyes and feel the rhythm of the deep breath you are taking.

Practice for up to five minutes at a time. Sit up and repeat the breathing exercises, but while sitting up. Breath in through your nose and breath out through your mouth. Slowly stick your chin on your chest and watch your belly as it inflates with air. Continue to concentrate on inflating your belly. Hold for 20 seconds and release through your mouth. Practice this technique a few times and eventually you will get used to the way it feels. Continue practicing for a day or two.

Oxygen is fuel for your body. The air in the oxygen will cause chemical reactions throughout your body to take place much faster. This will speed up your metabolism, helping your body to burn more fat.

There’s a reason that many different athletes use breathing techniques in their sport. It’s important to stay healthy and active. Oxygen fuels your body and mind and is necessary for everything to function properly. Breathing deeply for 20 minutes at a time is what we should eventually work towards. Try deep breathing exercises before and after exercise. Some people use these exercises to start off their day as kind of a meditation. Others use it to end their day too and to melt the day’s stress away.

Anytime you are starting a new workout regimen, it’s a good idea to speak to your doctor to ensure that what you are about to do is healthy.

Weight loss supplements aren’t all they’re cracked up to be. They may be unsafe or sometimes detrimental to your health. They make grand promises of fast weight loss that stays off, but what’s the deal surrounding weight loss supplements and pills?

If you read the packaging and watch the infomercial closely, you’ll see that the weight loss they are promising is no better than the weight loss you’d see if you simply worked on your dietary habits and daily fitness routine. You need to lose between 2 and 3 pounds a week for your weight loss to be effective and to stay healthy.

Bottles of Ephedra at Nutrition Store

A lot of the weight loss supplements get around this by naming off a large number of pounds that each participant has allegedly lost over a period of a few weeks or months. When you sit down and do the math, you’ll see that in some cases, they are barely losing a pound or a pound and a half a week. Does that really make it worth the additional expense? Weight loss is expensive. Manufacturers know that we want to lose weight and that we are concerned with our body image.

They make a lot of grand promises and hope you don’t sit down and figure it all out yourself. If you cut just 500 calories a day out of your meals, you should drop 1 pound a week with this effort alone. If you exercise for 30 to 45 minutes a day, even if it is broken up over several different periods, you should lose at least 1 pound a week. Right there that is two pounds a week. This figure beats some of the markets top weight loss supplements.

My suggestion is to put your money into eating better food and working out more. Don’t go out and buy a lot of expensive health food before you decide on an exercise plan. Put your plan into motion and when you’ve stuck to the plan for a week, begin with the healthy eating. Avoid eating out and processed or canned foods. Build into a healthy lifestyle and way of life gradually. Doing too much at once can sometimes be a setback for us. I know you want to see instant results, but that’s not always possible.

Make sure you’re drinking plenty of water; at least six to eight glasses of water a day. Water is vital to your health and is important to your overall weight loss.

You only need to exercise five days a week. Keep in mind that you don’t have to do it forever, but don’t start off doing everything all at once. We tend to get bored and discouraged quickly when this happens. Instead, alternate what type of workout you’re doing or add new things to your workout plan as you go through the month.

We often read about women and weight loss, but what about men? They are not to be forgotten and there is a lot of information out there that’s not being shared when it comes to men and fitness.

There is a lot of media hype surrounding women and working out, but there is not enough information out there when it comes to men and how they should be protecting themselves from working out and what they can do to utilize their time most effectively.

The first step is to stay well-hydrated by drinking plenty of water. Always keep water with you when you’re working out. Water helps to lubricate your joints in addition to keeping your body hydrated.

Jogger Stretching in Cityscape

You must protect your bones and muscles by stretching before you begin your workout. If you are unsure as to what types of stretches you should be doing, speak to your family doctor or a fitness expert for help.

You can prevent muscle sprains and tight calves by doing ankle circles. These will stretch your ankles and strengthen your tibialis. First, lie down, grabbing the back of one knee. Pull your leg to your chest and begin making circles with one foot. Do between 20 and 40 of these, clockwise. Repeat, but in the opposite direction. If you do these every day, this will help prevent muscle strain during workouts. You should see a difference right away.

Next, learn good stress management and stress relief. This is important. You can start by getting plenty of sleep. Sleep deprivation is a problem among many Americans and it can affect many different aspects of your life. It is no less of a problem for men than women.

Learn your stress trigger points and how you can effectively and appropriately deal with them, so that you can manage your stress in a healthy way.

Though I would not recommend drinking a lot of coffee or caffeine, having a cup of Joe can help you to relieve stress and blow off some steam. Headphones can be effective in helping you to focus your energy and effort on the task at hand and to block out annoyances.

Man doing yoga

Yoga isn’t just for women. Men can do Yoga too! You’d be surprised at how many NFL players practice Yoga on a regular basis. Yoga is excellent for both body and mind and can truly benefit you health-wise and stress-wise.

When working out in a gym, make sure you follow safety precautions regarding your infections in your hands and feet. Always wear footwear or sandals when walking around the locker rooms. Wear antibacterial socks and/or use foot powder to reduce moisture. Infections run rampant in locker rooms and it’s important to take care of yourself.

Consider taking a few minutes in a sauna after a workout. This can help you to relieve sore muscles and to sweat off some additional arthritis relief. Avoid drinking before going into the sauna and listen to your body. Get out if you start to feel light-headed or dizzy. Saunas are perfectly fine for healthy men and can be utilized on a regular basis as part of a regular workout routine.

Pregnancy and weight loss can be tricky. Many doctors tell you to avoid losing weight and, in fact, are in favor of women gaining weight. It’s important for you to know that you can stay healthy and trim while pregnant without jeopardizing your baby’s health.

Women often times worry about gaining weight while they are pregnant. There are some doctors who believe you can never gain too much weight and give the bad advice of gaining 40 or more pounds. Others understand that women are healthiest if they only gain the weight from the baby itself and the afterbirth. That means, you should only gain about 20 to 30 pounds during the entire pregnancy.

Young pregnant woman in tree pose yoga stance in living room

As important as it is to stay healthy and active during your pregnancy, there are times when it may not be the best option. Consider your previous health and listen to your healthcare provider regarding exercise. For example, I have two serious heart conditions, so when I was pregnant, I was not allowed to get my heart rate up, so that made exercising difficult.

If during previous pregnancies, you have had a baby earlier than 37 weeks, or if you are showing signs of preterm labor, speak to your healthcare provider before beginning to exercise.

In some cases, exercise may cause a miscarriage. If you have previously had a miscarriage, you should speak to your doctor about whether or not exercise is right for you.

Having more than one baby may increase your risk of labor complications. Placenta and heart problems are also things to consider.

If you are in a pregnancy where you are confined to bed rest throughout your pregnancy, you may consider a bed rest fitness routine. Darline Turner-Lee offers a wonderful Bedrest Fitness DVD for women who are pregnant and are confined to the bed.

Yoga can also be an excellent way to stay in shape and to keep your muscles strong during the pregnancy. Yoga is gentle and can be modified as you become more pregnant. It can also help you to relax and may improve your overall sense of well being and your sleep.

Pregnancy can be difficult. As the pregnancy progresses, you may feel like working out less and less. You may also get less sleep, which may mean you have less energy throughout the day.

It’s important to fit in as much physical activity as possible. You’ll most likely find that this will help you get through the labor and delivery of your baby easier. If you feel like you never have the time or energy to fit in an appropriate amount of daily exercise, you can make a few lifestyle changes that will help you greatly.

For example, take the stairs whenever possible. Don’t choose the closest spot when visiting the grocery or department store. Park far away and take the extra few minutes to walk. If you have errands that are within walking distance of your home, walk instead of driving!

If you can’t go to the gym to work out and walking outdoors isn’t necessarily a possibility, buy or rent a DVD for at home. If you are walking outdoors or doing outside activities, make sure you always have plenty of water. Dehydration can be a real problem during pregnancy and you can easily become dehydrated without realizing it.

Don’t think you have to go to the mall or gym or take a walk outside for exercise. You can walk up and down the hallway of your home or the sidewalk in front of your home too. You can even walk to the end of the driveway and back. If you have trouble managing time, make sure you schedule in your workout. Make it an important appointment just like anything else.

Use a push mower instead of a gas mower, get up to change the television station and spread your cleaning out throughout each day, instead of packing it all in at once.

Making these little lifestyle changes can be very beneficial to you and wearing a pedometer will help you keep track of your steps. When I wore a pedometer, it became sort of like a contest with myself to see if I could walk further than I had the day before. It was fun and exciting to watch my progress and to blog about it online. Do what works for you and you’ll succeed with the knowing and understanding that you are taking care of yourself and your baby.

It can be difficult to fit in working out time when we live a busy and active lifestyle. Sometimes, even if we do live an active lifestyle, the life we need is not enough daily activity for us to stay fit and trim. It’s important to fit additional exercise in whenever we can.

If you work full time and are concerned about your weight, you may feel overwhelmed at times. Especially if you have a family and/or children at home to attend to at the end of the day, you may feel like you never get a break. There are some people in this world that appear to have it all together on first glance. They work full time, have clean houses and well-behaved children. Those people tend to stay in shape and be healthy also.
Woman Exercising and Using Laptop

Woman Exercising and Using Laptop

So how is it that some people can succeed in almost everything they do and others can’t? Focus and prioritizing are two of the key components. You must learn to schedule in your physical activity. Be realistic with your goals and sit down and put together a game plan, which you can easily implement. Don’t start off too obsessive. Be realistic in your weight loss goals and decide which activities fit into your daily lifestyle and what’s realistic for you to do.

It’s realistic to lose 1 to 2 pounds a week at the most. An unrealistic goal would be to lose five to ten pounds a week. It’s true, there are some fad diets which promise unrealistic results like this, but the pounds tend to come back very quickly from these types of plans.

Decide which physical activities you can do and which ones you can stick to. Schedule it into your work week accordingly. You will likely need to exercise at least four or five days a week. You might decide to exercise Monday through Friday and take the weekends off or to exercise every other day. You might switch off with regard to the routines you do. For example, take a 40 minute walk Monday, Thursday and Sunday, but life weights on Tuesday and Friday.

Keep in mind that you will need to add more to your routine as you lose weight. Eventually, your body will become accustomed to the daily activity and you will need to change the types of activities you do or increase the amount of physical activity in order for it to be effective.

Young Women Power Walking

Walking is probably one of the best exercises anyone can do, including pregnant woman. Walking is something most of us can do without issue and you can do it at your own pace. I wouldn’t recommend walking on a treadmill while pregnant, as this may be dangerous. If you’re worried about becoming dehydrated or getting tired too far away from home, stay close to home. Begin by walking around the block. It’s okay to walk around the same block five or six times. That way, if you get tired sooner than you think you will, you are close to home and don’t have to walk too far to get home.

Make sure you are dressing appropriately and wearing the proper footwear. This is vital and important to your physical fitness and overall health while pregnant. Speak to your healthcare provider regarding the exercise which is right for you and how you should dress.
